Product for wireless data monitoring ideal for mesh network applications.  Use examples include a variety of monitoring applications including but not limited to water flow, tank level and temperature.   Systems consist of one wireless to USB data collection unit called the ZDU and one or many FDUs (Field Data Units).   The system allows for collecting data from numerous remote data points via wireless radio connection.

The ZDU operates as the central hub (master collector) of the network.  Each FDU is equipped with one factory configured externally accessible sensor input that supports a variety of sensor types (voltage input, current input, digital input).  Each FDU also contains options for ambient temperature monitoring via an onboard temperature sensor and also an onboard accelerometer for tilt/shock detection.  FDUs are powered by internal AAA batteries.  When using rechargeable batteries a variety of DC power sources can be utilized to recharge the batteries while remaining in the FDU.

Wireless communication among nodes in the network is FCC/IC license free operating in the 906 MHz and 928 MHz band at 100 mW.  Channel hopping Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum modulation is used to balance power consumption and provide immunity to narrow band interference.  Data periodicity can be configured to satisfy the specific needs of the application.

Unique to this product is its network formation design in that wireless ‘bonding’ between the ZDU and FDUs is seamless and automatic.  Once a ZDU is active a network is automatically formed with activation of the first FDU and as long as activation of the next FDU occurs within range of the previous FDU, the network is expanded – no additional actions are required.

This network formation architecture provides an additional unique ability to automatically form new device relationships. For example, in the event of communication loss between previously matched nodes, the network may be able to recapture lost node or nodes through a different physical configuration path.  Line of sight operating range between a device pair is 500’ – 900’.
